NEFJ 25 DAYS OF THANKSGIVING RIVALRIES: Boston Latin vs. Boston English

Series History: 82-38-13

A Look at the Rivalry: Boston Latin and Boston English play America’s oldest, continuous high school football rivalry. The two schools have been playing for 133 years.

Latin has dominated the rivalry through the years. They won last season’s meeting 16-6. That was their sixth straight win in the rivalry.

The two schools have played most games in the rivalry at Harvard Stadium. The game almost wasn’t there in recent years.

After the 1966 game, more than one thousand students got rowdy in Harvard Square. The end result was seven people got injured and the students caused several hundred dollars of damage to stores in the area. After the game, the Cambridge city manager asked Harvard’s president to not allow the two schools future use of Harvard Stadium. The university refused the request, put rules in place and there were no issues the following year.

Latin, English is still a great rivalry and it is sad to know that we won’t see it this year. Its really too bad.
